Blackpool Display

The Company has a fantastic record of taking part in the North West District Display at Blackpool Tower Circus Arena. This page gives a flavour of what has gone before.

When you talk about the Annual District Display at The Tower Circus, Blackpool you just can't ignore "St. Nat's!"

Each year since 1951, this display has been held and the Company hasn't missed appearing in many. In fact the current Display Chairman, Jack Pugh is a former member of the famous 10th Wigan Company.

Here are some Blackpool Memories in words and pictures.

A black dog; Actual size=240 pixels wide

1976 - "Ukranain Scene" The Company was brought back onto the Arena for a special presentation in recognition of 25 years appearing in the Display. The officer in charge of the item Jack Pugh is now in charge of the Blackpool Diplay and has been since 1983.

1986 - "Wigan Rock". These 2 pictures show very different scenes. The top picure the Junior Section are in high spirits on the Blackpool bound coach. The second picture shows the 3 main cast members a little more subdued with 10 minutes to go to curtain!

The 10th Wigan don't only perform at Blackpool you know! This programme is from the Brigade Council at Southport where the lads reprised a former Blackpool item "Superstar". Performing excerpts from Jesus Christ Superstar, this was one of our more serious and moving performances. We were told that members of the Southport Theatre audience were visibly moved by the realistic crucifixion finale.

The Companies taking part in the Display had their dressing rooms indentified with a white card with the Company written on it. Tradition has it in the 10th that in true showbiztyle we all autograph it! Here's one from 1985 duly scrawled all over. I have more of these (even from the 70's)and they will be appearing in due course!
